I remember watching this live on the weather channel and if I got this right he was standing on a hilltop and he was picking up mail from over a hundred miles away. I watched it till into Tuscaloosa and just remember tears coming down my face without knowing it. I'm in Ohio and yes a BIG Buckeye fan who always hated Bama, but after that day I had a different perspective. I just remember saying may the good lord be with them. I wasn't there but my heart was. May god bless those who lost their lives that horrible day. And yes there is a little ROLL TIDE in me till this day.❤

If that Tornado had directly hit Birmingham right after it hit Tuscaloosa. It would have been the most catastrophic tornado in US history.

I'm Turkish, I use Turkish airlines every day. my dad works at Turkish airlines, and while watching this video I noticed that this is really old. Right now in 2023 or 2024, Turkish airlines is the airline that goes to the most places in the world. I was so sad when I saw this, the amount of people that was injured... but at least only 9 people died. But Right now, Turkish airlines is one of the most successful airline in the world.

I have read about this and two engines had faulty dynamic brakes. The train should not have been moved from the original depot. When the engineers noticed that the speed was creeping up then that is clear evidence that the dynamic brakes were not working properly. At that time a full emergency air brake may have saved the train. That is the way to get the LEAST heat into the brakes. The further the train goes the more heat that is created. Using them to SLOW the train creates heat without stopping the train. That overheated them and then it was all over. If you could have taken off some speed you could have put the engines into reverse and opened the throttle. Damaging the wheels and motors but saving lives. I have seen that done before.

I live in Tuscaloosa we were on the westside of Tuscaloosa where the tornado first touchdown and the tornado was right behind our house, and it was supposed to come straight through our house and hit downtown, but it took a turn. James Spann did everything he could that day. The power went out right as we got confirmation that a tornado was on the ground. The other areas of the city had lost power that morning due to the first storm that hit 4am that day. I remember James Spann saying if the sun comes out it’s going to be bad.

I literally wrote a thesis on the frequency and severity of tornadoes and showed this to be false. Any frequency increase was mostly due to the rollout of WSR-88D NEXRAD radars being able to detect storm-relative wind velocity and the fact that more people live in more places and, thus, see more tornadoes were counted. Severity was due primarily to those people in more places having more things to damage. I would've liked to have watched this, but I'm not going to reward you for a premise based in BS.

You dont need a severe T-Storm to have a Tornado. Just the right ingredients to come together at that time
